Alfred Zernik, aged 92, passed away peacefully on October 19th, surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 2, 1932, Alfred, known for his determination, wisdom, and unwavering spirit, lived a full and vibrant life, A dedicated husband, father and grandfather, Alfred’s legacy is one of love and caring. He cherished time spent with family, instilling values of hard work and perseverance in his children and grandchildren. His stories, often laced with humor, entertained and inspired all who knew him.

Alfred had a passion for music and cruises, which brought him much joy and pleasure. His endowment of an annual lecture at Middlebury College German Summer Language program, dedicated to the memories of his grandmother Anna Zernik and his uncle Karl Zernik, showed his love of language and history and dedication to ensure that future generations will never forget the past. Alfred spent many happy hours sitting in his easy chair in his den and reading one of the many books that surrounded him or out in his beautiful garden under the trellis of wisteria. He enjoyed many weekends spent in NYC at his pied-a-terre, enjoying the museums, restaurants and walks through Central Park. 

He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Judith (nee Singer); loving father of Susan E. Zernik (Chris Mastrangelo) and Stephanie Doroff (Frank); also survived by 3 cherished grandchildren: Elisabeth (Lindsey), Sydney, and Alexandra, and his treasured granddog, Jay-D, who will forever hold him in their hearts. Alfred’s spirit and joie de vivre will continue to live on through the many lives he touched.

Services were private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to B’nai Jacob Synagogue, P.O. Box 118, Middletown, PA 17057 or by Venmo to: bnaijacob-synagogue.

Alfred Zernik will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered.
