ALMA PERCH FINESTONE, age 88, died suddenly on August 25, 2012. Survived by her husband, Albert J. Finestone, M.D. , her brother, T. Gilbert Perch, her children: Toby Grubman (Joel), Jay Finestone (Randy Schwartz), Audrey Kanoff (Steven, MD) and 9 loving grandchildren.
Alma was a prolific painter and exhibited her work at a number of art shows, recently winning first prize at the Artist Cultural Exchange. A graduate of Temple University with a Master's Degree from the University of Pennsylvania, she spent 5 years studying art at the Barnes Foundation and felt this was a life changing experience. She also served on the board of the Cheltenham Center for the Arts for many years. She was an avid tennis player and also traveled extensively with her husband. Their travels included participating in one of the first groups of Americans to travel to China on a trip that she helped coordinate and lead. She was a long term season ticket holder to The Philadelphia Orchestra and was a member of the Barrymore Committee, the group that reviewed and honored local theatre productions. She and her husband often traveled to New York to see many on and off Broadway shows. She was very involved with the Temple Hospital Auxiliary, including being President of the Temple Hospital Auxiliary and receiving the Martha Caswell Award for her dedicated services.
Services will be held Monday August 27, 2012 at 1 P.M. at Congregation Keneseth Israel, 8339 Old York Rd., Elkins Park, Pa 19027. Shiva will be observed at the late residence on Monday. Contributions in her memory can be made to the Cheltenham Center for the Arts, 429 Ashbourne Rd, Cheltenham, Pa, 19012. Interment Roosevelt Memorial Park.
