Ann Sklar

d. January 4, 2023

Ann Sklar (nee Sternfeld) of Tampa, FL, Woolwich, ME, and Philadelphia, PA. Ann was born on June 23, 1943 to parents Irving and Helen Sternfeld (nee Feuchtwanger) in Philadelphia, PA. Ann graduated from Cheltenham High School in 1961, and afterwards she attended Temple University where she earned a degree in English. On December 22, 1963 at the age of 20, Ann married her high school sweetheart, Henry Sklar. She began her career as an elementary teacher in Philadelphia. After having two children, Leigh (Feuer) and Jill (Axel), she went back to school for her B.F.A. at Arcadia University. In 1977, Ann helped form Muse Gallery, an artist cooperative, which focused on promoting women in art. Still in existence today, Muse’s founding members, including Ann, were recently honored. Later in 1977, Ann co-founded the Sign of the Swan Craft Gallery in Chestnut Hill, one of the first contemporary American craft galleries in Philadelphia. She followed that with the opening of the Swan Gallery near Rittenhouse Square. Both closed in 1989. Ann then went on to start a company that represented fine jewelry artists across the east coast. Upon retiring as a jewelry sales rep, Ann returned to her true passion, painting.  Ann became a successful artist represented by multiple galleries. Her paintings encompassed abstract watercolors, realistic oils, and ultimately modern landscapes. Ann found inspiration in nature, especially in her favorite place, Maine.
Ann was a devoted wife and mother whose passion was her children and grandchildren.  She was a loving sister and friend.  Ann enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, painting, meeting with her book club and women’s group, watching Jeopardy and taking walks with Henry and Billy (her beloved Havenese). She will be remembered for her compassion, generosity, sense of humor, grace, strength, creativity and intelligence.
Beloved wife of Henry Sklar; loving mother of Leigh Feuer (Scott) and Jill Axel (Sean); adoring Mommom of Isabel, Sam, Ben, and Holden; treasured sister of Sue Konst (Richard) and Flossie Kehr (Roger). Ann will be missed beyond measure.
