RUBLIN
ANNA (nee Kimberg), 88, a true "Yiddishe Momme," passed away on February 1, 2016. She was a loving wife to her late husband Louis for 54 years, a devoted mother to Joel (Lauren), Burt (Harriet), Hedda (Steven), Mindy (Zohar), and Arthur (Erika), and beloved Grandma to Michael, David and Jennifer; Amy (Justin), David and Matthew; Rebecca and Jason; Keren and Shira; and Daniel, Adam and Zachary.
Born to Eastern European immigrant parents and raised in the Bronx with her brothers Jack, Sam and Eugene, who all predeceased her, she attended Brooklyn College and then obtained a Masters degree at the Adelphi University School of Social Work. She worked at the Association for Jewish Children of Philadelphia, then focused on geriatric social work at the Philadelphia Geriatric Center and other geriatric care facilities. Even after "retirement," she continued to help others-teaching English to immigrants; reading to children, who affectionately called her "Bubbe Ann;" and advocating on behalf of seniors through her work with CARIE (whose website still features a photo of her ever-present smile). A lifelong singer of Yiddish songs, she sang on the radio as a child and performed for many years with the Workmen's Circle Chorus, often singing solos. She entertained her fellow residents at the Abramson Center with classics such as "Tumbalalaika" and "Belz," often accompanied by her beloved caretakers, Monique Bookman and Scosha Washington. Despite many serious health problems through-out her life, she persevered and always tried to "Accentuate the Positive," yet another of her favorite songs. She was an avid tennis player and swimmer, and loved the outdoors. She had a smile and kind word for everyone she met, and her love and compassion were boundless.
