Arthur Mark Blatman was born on March 5, 1946, to the late Morris E. and Seldia Blatman. He was the loving husband of nearly 50 years to Ilene Glick Blatman, a devoted father to Marcia Blatman of Philadelphia, and the beloved younger brother of Julie Ann Blatman Levy of Tel Aviv, Israel.
Arthur grew up in Center City Philadelphia. He graduated from John Bartram High School and went on to earn his pharmacy degree from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science in 1969. He owned Morgan Apothecary in the John Wanamaker store. The business later relocated to Strawbridge & Clothier, where it remained until the store closed. Arthur then worked at Rite Aid in Warrington, Pennsylvania, until his retirement in 2011.
Arthur served on the Board of Directors at Temple Sinai in Dresher, Pennsylvania. In May 1995, he was honored as the Joseph A. Fine Honoree and Man of the Year.
He also served on the Board of Directors of the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science and was president of its Alumni Association from 1997 to 1999. When the college became a university, Arthur was involved in its renaming to the University of the Sciences.
An avid deep-sea fisherman, Arthur began fishing as a boy, joining his father on trips to New Jersey. He later enjoyed fishing with Ilene, and eventually made several trips each year to the Outer Banks with “the guys.”
Arthur loved traveling with family and friends, especially on cruises, and always enjoyed planning the trips. He also loved the challenge of puzzles—the more pieces and the harder, the better. After retiring, he became the “designated driver,” happily taking family and friends to airports, train stations, and other destinations at any hour, day or night. He simply loved to drive and help those he cared about.
A true son of Philadelphia, Arthur supported the Flyers, Phillies, Eagles, and Sixers.
Arthur will be deeply missed by his family, his many cousins, friends, and all who knew him. He will forever remain in our hearts and in the stories we share about him.
