In Memoriam: Barry Earl Kimmel

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Barry Kimmel, a remarkable man who touched the lives of many with his kindness, intelligence, and creativity. Born on December 2nd, 1949, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Barry lived a life as expansive and diverse as the universe he so often contemplated.

A proud graduate of Penn State University, Barry furthered his education with a Master's of Business Administration from St. Joseph's College. His professional journey led him to various roles, culminating in his position as the Director of Logistics at Custom Building Products in Seal Beach, California, where he was cherished by colleagues for his warmth and ingenuity.

Barry's entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly when he and Patty opened the Lone Pine Inn Bar and Restaurant in the Pocono mountains in 1972. Together with lifelong friends, Steve and Anita Davis, they hosted live bands and created memories to the soundtrack of classic rock music playing through the bar’s surround sound stereo system.

In 1992, Barry moved to Seal Beach, California, where he and Patty raised their children, Jamie and Kaitlin. Barry loved attending his weekly “Lucky 13” AA meetings on the beach, and was proud to celebrate 31 years of sobriety in November 2023.

Barry loved walking on the beach, wandering through the woods, contemplating the meaning of life, and spending time with his family and friends. Labrador Retrievers brought him immense joy, and he raised and dearly loved many throughout his life: Lucifer, Lucy, Maxine, Molly, Savannah, and Foxie.

In 2015, Barry returned to his roots in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, near his childhood home in Norristown. Here, he spent the last years of his life in the company of his wife and best friends. In his retirement, he became an accomplished sculptor and ceramicist, spending his days taking ceramics classes at Montgomery County Community College and making sculptures in the art studio he turned his garage into. He won multiple awards for his artwork, and was known by his classmates for playing classic rock in the ceramics studio and for his dedication to his craft.

Barry read Scientific American and the Kybalion religiously, reflecting his fascination with the universe's mysteries. His love for the psychedelic and otherworldly was mirrored in his wise, gentle, and brilliant demeanor, leaving an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know him.

Since Barry's passing, an outpouring of love and support has come from those touched by his presence. He was a bright light in the lives of all who had the privilege of calling him friend, family, or colleague. As we say farewell, we take comfort in the belief that Barry is now reunited with his beloved canine companions, parents, and sister, and is in the next chapter of his life exploring the vastness of the universe.

Some of Barry's favorite quotes and excerpts include the following:

“We are all just stardust that achieved consciousness to contemplate the universe in which we live.” - Neil deGrasse Tyson

“We have found much of heaven and we have been rocketed into a fourth dimension of existence of which we had not even dreamed.” - ‘There is a Solution,’ Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 25

"THE ALL IS MIND; The Universe is Mental

Do not make the mistake of supposing that the little world you see around you -- the Earth, which is a mere grain of dust in the Universe -- is the Universe itself. There are millions upon millions of such worlds, and greater. And there are millions of millions of such Universes in existence within the Infinite Mind of THE ALL. And even in our own little solar system there are regions and planes of life far higher than ours, and beings compared to which we earth-bound mortals are as the slimy life-forms that dwell on the ocean's bed when compared to Man. There are beings with powers and attributes higher than Man has ever dreamed of the gods' possessing. And yet these beings were once as you, and still lower -- and you will be even as they, and still higher, in time, for such is the Destiny of Man as reported by the Illumined.

And Death is not real, even in the Relative sense -- it is but Birth to a new life -- and You shall go on, and on, and on, to higher and still higher planes of life, for aeons upon aeons of time. The Universe is your home, and you shall explore its farthest recesses before the end of Time. You are dwelling in the Infinite Mind of THE ALL, and your possibilities and opportunities are infinite, both in time and space. And at the end of the Grand Cycle of Aeons, when THE ALL shall draw back into itself all of its creations -- you will go gladly, for you will then be able to know the Whole Truth of being At One with THE ALL." -  excerpt from The Kybalion
