Barton Banks passed away peacefully on the morning of January 25, 2026. He was 94 years old, and by all accounts, he made the most of his precious time on earth. Bart, or Pop Pop, as he was known to his grandchildren and great grandchildren, enjoyed a loving family and a remarkable network of friends. He had just celebrated 50 years of sobriety, and during that time, he helped countless souls who leaned on him for strength, wisdom and guidance.
Bart grew up in the Wynnefield section of Philadelphia and was a proud product of Overbrook High School. He graduated from Temple University and Temple Law School before practicing law for almost 60 years, first with his father Frank and later with his son David. He was a lawyer, a businessman and a trusted advisor to countless clients and small businesses. His Temple Owls were near and dear to him, and even as those teams sometimes struggled, he was a loyal fan who searched the airwaves relentlessly for Temple basketball and football games. He loved his Philadelphia Eagles, too, and never missed an opportunity to cheer for the Birds.
His real passion, though, was his large and loving family — his wife Donna, his children Michael (Lori), Debbi (Peter), David (Randi) and Peter (Diana), as well as his 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was irreverent, generous, and often quite silly, and children flocked to him. In his later years, when he was no longer able to continue his regular sessions on tennis courts and his trips to Florida, there was nothing he enjoyed more than a hug from a child or great grandchild, or a call to Pop Pop Bart.
A private funeral service will be held for Bart’s immediate family. The memories of Bart will be treasured, and he will be missed by all who knew him.
