Betty Millman died peacefully at home in Plymouth Meeting on April 3, 2024 at the age of 100. She was the beloved wife of late husband, Samuel; devoted mother of sons Hank (Mimi), Rick (Lois) and Charlie; proud grandmother of granddaughters Jennifer (Obi) Emejulu, Katie (Phillip) Deutschler, Elizabeth (Andrew) Lack, and Isabel Millman; and great-grandmother of Isabela and Theodore Emejulu and Piper, Tobin and Max Deutschler.
Born in Philadelphia, the youngest of Benjamin and Bella Cherner’s seven children, she stayed young and strong in heart until she retired, reluctantly, at 96. Congenitally wary of canines of all breeds and sizes, she was the longtime bookkeeper extraordinaire at the Montgomery County SPCA, whose accounts she kept with ferocious accuracy. Humans of all ages and persuasions, on the other hand, she took to with unaffected and easily reciprocated warmth. She relished everyday pleasures like her crosswords and Breyers no less than hearing of others’ enjoyment. She preferred listening to speaking, especially to the voices of her husband and sons, who will miss her everlastingly.
