Binnie Donald

Binnie Donald (nee Schuman) of Wayne, PA passed away on July 28, 2020 in her home surrounded by her family. Beloved wife of D. James "Don" Donald for 53 years, loving mother of Melissa (Michael) Donovan and adoring "Grammie" to Sofia, Asher and Joshua. She is also survived by the cherished families of her late siblings Gail Morgenstern and Stuart Schuman. Binnie grew up in Philadelphia, graduated from Overbrook High School, and loved her summers as a youth spent at Camp Akiba and down the shore in Atlantic City. She earned her Bachelor's in Education from the University of Pennsylvania in 1961 and, thereafter, became a French and Spanish teacher in the Lower Merion School District where she met her husband Don. Binnie was known for her kindness, devotion to family, enduring friendships, lifelong French study, involvement in Congregation Or Shalom and, notably, her six decades as a volunteer leader for Penn's Association of Alumnae. She received the 1984 Penn Alumni Award of Merit and remained continuously active in Class of '61 communications, events and reunions. Binnie would frequently say that Penn is forever "locked in my heart." She treasured all of her communities, her volunteer work, her strong bonds with high school and college friends, rooting for the Phillies, and most of all, spending time with her beloved husband, daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren. Binnie's warm smile, sincerity, and loving nature will be remembered as a blessing to all who knew her. Burial took place at Har Jehuda Cemetery, Upper Darby, PA. Contributions in her memory can be made to the University of Pennsylvania Association of Alumnae Scholarship/Gift Fund.
