Cherie Unterberger

Cherie Unterberger (nee Worobow) died peacefully on March 13, 2026, after a brief illness, at the age of 97. She was born in Flatbush, Brooklyn, within earshot of Ebbets Field, the daughter of the late Jack and Freda Worobow and sister of the late Sidney Worobow.

Cherie was a proud Erasmus Hall High School graduate and studied at City College of New York. While Cherie was on vacation with Sidney at Grossinger’s, her brother asked Philadelphia cardiologist Herbert Unterberger, MD: “Want to meet a pretty girl?” The rest was history. Marriage, three children, Susan (Robert), Lisa (Andrew) and Robert, and seven grandchildren, Hannah, Matthew (Erica), Ben (Lauren), Josh, David, Sarah and Lauren, all of whom survive her.

Herbert sadly died when their children were young. Despite her early loss, Cherie enjoyed her life: family, friends, travel, tennis, cooking, reading, cards, classic movies, Main Line School Night, the Kimmel, Phillies, Parc, Democratic politics, and the Sunday Times crossword puzzle. Shopping was also a favorite pastime, and it’s possible the closure of the City Line Saks Fifth Avenue hastened her passing.

Later in life, she remarried Leon Orsher, DDS who also predeceased her.

Cherie was an opinionated and often unfiltered presence in the lives of her family and will be missed. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Bryn Mawr Hospital Foundation or the charity of your choice are welcomed.
