DANIEL MACLEON

DANIEL MACLEON (MACAZAGA)

Daniel MacLeon (92), of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania passed from this world on Thursday, October 26, 2023. He lived a full and courageous life and is now at peace.

He was born in Mexico and emigrated to the United States in his early twenties, after marrying his wife Sara (nee Burns). Together, they moved to Philadelphia and started their family. A devout Roman Catholic, he attended Saint Katherine of Sienna Church, in Phila.,  with his family on Sundays. Daniel  built a successful career holding a number of respected positions and working globally for such companies as General Electric, Lockheed Martin, Pepsi-Cola, and FMC corporation.

He was a proud American who loved his sports including the Philadelphia Phillies, almost as much as he loved soccer and the great Pele. After moving his family to Northeast Philadelphia in the 1960s, he enjoyed being part of the local community leading youth soccer as a coach for several years and vacationing with his family at the Jersey shore.

Daniel  lived briefly in South Carolina where he volunteered with the local school district helping disabled children attend school and acting as a go-between with their non-English speaking parents. He also helped teach English to adults new to this country.

After retiring, Daniel became committed to staying physically fit and active any way he could. Eventually, he discovered his love for the game of golf. No weather was too extreme to prevent him from enjoying his new sport. He eventually bought a home on a golf course to give him easy access.

Often found in the kitchen, Daniel created and shared Mexican cuisine. He gifted his love of Mexico to his family by celebrating Mexican food, holidays, and customs alongside those of the U.S.  Birthdays and major holidays often included piñatas, partially for the children, but also for his enjoyment.

Daniel, along with his wife and children, traveled over the years to visit family in Mexico and often kept in touch with his extended family. He  gave his children the gift of respecting other world cultures while appreciating their Mexican heritage.

His infectious demeanor, warm personality and humor touched the lives of everyone he met. He lived his life as an example to those who loved him. Daniel will be missed greatly.

He was a beloved husband, loving father, devoted brother, cherished grandfather, and great grandfather. He is survived by his five children: Daniel MacLeon (Grace); Sara Armstrong; Laurel Bloch (Kevin); Frank MacLeon (MaryEllen);  and Patricia Houston-Martinez; 11 Grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.  Daniel is pre-deceased by his loving wife Sara, his beloved brother, Manuel, and his half-siblings.

Relatives and friends are invited to services, Tuesday, October 31, 2023, 10:30am,  at St. Katherine of Sienna Church, 9700 Frankford Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19114. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Bensalem, PA.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Daniel’s memory may  be made to PhilAbundanceWorld Central Kitchen,  or a charity of the donor’s choice.
