Eugene Allen Shaid

Eugene Allen Shaid (Yehuda Avraham), age 89, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2025. Beloved husband of the late Roberta “Bobbie” Fisher Shaid and cherished husband of Donna Shaid. Loving father of Susan Shaid (David) Kedson, Amy (Scott) Zemser, and William (Elizabeth Chapman) Shaid; devoted stepfather to Jonathan, Peter, and Steven and their families. Proud grandfather of Erika (Alex) Perilstein, Michael, Joshua, Samantha, Rachel, Brandon, and Rebecca; and adoring great-grandfather of Ari, Rena, Miriam, Binyamin, and Sara.

A graduate of Overbrook High School, Eugene earned a degree in Architecture from Temple University. Though trained as an architect, he devoted much of his career to the family’s business. For 35 years he worked alongside his father and relatives at Charles Shaid Painting, where he was well known for his integrity, dedication, and craftsmanship. He later founded S & S Painting, which he led until his retirement in 2016 at age 80. Eugene also guided the AMPD apprenticeship program, was active in the PDCA, and served on numerous building committees throughout his life.

Those who knew Gene—family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues—remember him as kind, warm, honest, and unfailingly sweet. His gentle spirit, endless patience, and genuine care for others defined every relationship in his life. As a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and steadfast friend, Gene touched countless lives with his generosity and quiet strength. His presence brought comfort, his smile brought joy, and his love will continue to guide all who were fortunate enough to know him.
