Gwendolyn Sperling

Sperling Gwendolyn (nee White) Age 74. Gwen was born on March 21, 1947 in Lynchburg, VA. Her mother, sister and Gwen moved to Atlantic City, and Gwen graduated from Atlantic City High School. From there, Gwen attended Wilberforce University. After graduation in 1969, Gwen moved to Philadelphia and got a job teaching for the School District. Gwen taught at Rhodes Middle School for 35 years before retiring. In her free time, Gwen enjoyed reading, knitting, walking, exercising, and pilates. Gwen would walk on Forbidden Drive and in the neighbourhood with her friends. Gwen had a passion for literature of all types. She was a good listener, had an infectious smile, and was known for her kind and compassionate spirit. Gwen was a dedicated and enthusiastic teacher. Her room was open to students and staff alike. Years after graduating students would return to see Mrs. Sperling and share progress with her. There will never be another woman like Gwen. She was our heart. Gwen was loved by all. Gwen was married for 46 years. She was the wife of Peter Sperling, mother of Adam (Leslie) Sperling, Joshua (Theresa) Sperling, grandmother of Theodore Sperling, Felix Sperling, and Mariella Sperling, and sister of Alicia Myers. In lieu flowers, donations may be made in Gwen Sperling's name to either the Alzheimers Association, or the American Diabetes Association.
