Harry Sherman

Harry Sherman, age 99, passed away on Sunday, December 2, 2018. Harry was born March 13, 1919 in Philadelphia, to Philip Sherman and Rebecca Freedman Sherman, Ukrainian immigrants, one of five children. After graduating West Philadelphia High School in 1936, Harry joined the United States Air Force, where he served as an electrical engineer rising to the rank of corporal for over five years. He received many decorations and citations for his service. He was very patriotic and proud of his service to his country. In his later life, he enjoyed placing American flags on the property of Ann's Choice for patriotic holidays. After his honorable discharge, Harry joined his brother Lou in his family paper box company as manager, where he worked until he retired.

While serving in the Air Force, Harry met the love of his life, Leonore Rosenblatt, and they married on September 6, 1945. They invited 50 people to their wedding, and 200 guests showed up! Theirs was a true love story, faithful and devoted to each other for 73 years. Harry and Lee were long-time residents of Broomall, where they enjoyed socializing, swimming, and traveling. Harry loved the game of golf, spending hours both playing and watching. Harry and Lee were the proud parents of three children. Harry and Lee were also the proud grandparents of six grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Harry and Lee moved to Ann's Choice, where they have resided for the past twelve years. Harry took great pride in each home he owned, caring for his property, and planting beautiful gardens. He loved the city of Philadelphia and its sports teams, especially the Eagles and the Sixers. While residents of Ann's Choice, Harry enjoyed playing bocce, bingo, attending shows and concerts and movies. Harry and Lee were frequent attendees of Ann's Choice Elegant Evenings,

Harry connected with everyone on a deep personal level. He loved everyone he met, and was warm, thoughtful, and considerate to each individual. Everyone who met him fell in love. He was grateful and appreciative of every kind gesture toward him. He was generous to everyone and he donated frequently to numerous charities. He loved children and animals. He had an unusual zest for life, and found joy and happiness in all things around him. Mostly, he loved his family. He took great pride in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and in all their accomplishments.

Harry is survived by his children, Barry, and wife Fay, daughter Janice Knorr and husband Don, grandchildren Adam (Cindy), Renay (Tim), Lisa (Dan), Rachel (Aviad), and Rebecca (Mike). He was the devoted great-grandfather of Skylar, Jordyn, Jackson, Charley, Seth, Julia, and Sarah. Harry was the loving brother of Raymond (Rosalie). Harry is preceded in death by his daughter Sandra Reed.

Service will be Tuesday, December 4th in the Ann's Choice Chapel at 1:00 PM. Shiva will follow in the Craft Room in the building. Donations in Harry's memory may be made to Jewish War Veterans of the United States.
