Jan. 19, 2018; of Willingboro, NJ; Wife of Paul Bernard; devoted mother of Jonathan Mark Ellen, MD (Margaret), Rachel Ellen Holzman, Esq. (Stephen) and David Gould Ellen, Esq. (Ingrid); sister of Robert Manis, MD; cherished grandmother of Max, Caitlin, Audrey, Aaron, Jacob and Ellie; aunt of Sara Jill
; daughter of the late Alexander Saul Manis and the late Jean Michelson Manis. Also survived by extended family of Paul's 5 children, 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Dr. Halpern was a psychologist who took her undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a masters degree in English from Temple University. She took another masters degree and her PhD from Bryn Mawr College in psychiatric social work. She was a lifelong therapist in the Philadelphia and South Jersey areas serving, among others, policemen, firemen and their families. She was an enthusiast of the arts, especially the theater in Philadelphia and in New York, where she and David would frequently meet to take in the latest production.
