LEVENTON
HOWARD, died on Nov. 1, 2006, after a long and valiant fight against cancer. He was the loving husband of Judith (nee Newman), beloved father of Leland Leventon, Leslie Leventon Barna (Michael), Barbra Leventon Ross (Peter), and stepfather to Sharon Higdon (David) and Suzanne Ellenthal (Jonathan); and devoted grandfather to Lawrence, Joshua and Steven Ross, Jake and Sophie Higdon, and Zachary and Alex Ellenthal. A graduate of West Phila. High, he received his undergraduate degree and M.B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School. While in high school he wrote a music column for the Evening Bulletin called "Swingin Out", interviewing such big names as Frank Sinatra, Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman and Arty Shaw. A World War II army veteran, he was stationed in the South Pacific where he served as a medic. He was a member of one of the first occupying forces in Hiroshima after the Atomic Bomb was dropped. While at the Univ. of Penn he was a member of the track team running the 220 yard sprint and also participated in the Penn Relays. He began his career in the printing business working along side his father Benjamin, at the family owned business, Royal Press. After the business was sold he continued to pursue his career in printing until his retirement. He enjoyed taking continuing education classes at his Alma Mater, Big Band music, Frank Sinatra, the Phila. Eagles, electronic gadgets, his computer, and most of all, spending time with his family.
Relatives and friends are invited to Graveside Services, Friday 10 A.M. at Roosevelt Memorial Park (Sec. B2). Family will return to the Community Room at Sutton Terrace, 50 Belmont Avenue, Bala Cynwyd, PA. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions in his memory be made to: Sarcoma Research, c/o Dr. Richard Lachman and Dr. Arthur Staddon, Joan Karnell Cancer Center Pennsylvania Hosp., Phila. PA 19106.
