Iris Braunstein, who lived for more than three decades in Wynnewood, PA, died March 15, 2023. She recently celebrated her 95th birthday surrounded by four generations of her beloved family.
Iris was a retired Delaware County social worker who dedicated years to helping children and families. Following her retirement, she volunteered countless hours at the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House, where she did everything from drive the hospital shuttle to staff the front desk.
The daughter of David and Clara Cupersmith, Iris was raised in the University City section of Philadelphia. As a teenager, she entertained soldiers preparing to leave for World War II at dances her father organized.
Iris graduated from Temple University and earned her Master of Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania.
She was a cherished friend of many at the Green Hill Condominiums in Wynnewood. She often could be found playing bridge with her dearest friends, and she was the driver who chauffeured groups to luncheon outings.
She passed along her passion for music, travel, and style to her family. Iris toured Italy, Spain, Switzerland, and Bermuda with her family and took them to performances at the Kimmel Center, on Broadway, in Las Vegas, and in Toronto. Her most treasured travel memory was of her time in Israel.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of more than 50 years, Martin J. Braunstein, and her sister Shirley “Sally” Gekoski. She was the mother of Robin Glenn (Michael) and Norman Braunstein (Helene), grandmother of Jennifer Glenn Gingery (Derrick), Allison Glenn, and Jeffrey Braunstein (Jasmine Grenier), and great-grandmother of Dana and Léa.
