Jack Tarash, October 8, 2022, 82, died peacefully at home surrounded by loving family. Beloved husband of Linda (nee Bycer) married 61 years; loving father of Rabbi Ariel Cheryl Tarash and Roy (Debbie) Tarash, proud Zada of Eliot (Allison) and Cassandra (Ryan) and cherished great grandfather of Cooper and Wesley; devoted brother of Gerri (Herman) Farber and the late Alvin Tarash.
Born in South Philadelphia to Irv and Marion, Jack’s father immigrated to the United States in 1925 from Russia near Kyiv (now the Ukraine). His first language was Yiddish and Jack had a proud Jewish identity and sense of Yiddishkeit. Jack and Linda were married in 1961, both loving to dance, they danced through life together.
Jack had a strong work ethic having jobs from the time he was a teenager. He retired from the Philadelphia Navy Yard as a ship systems inspector and had his own residential plumbing business. A generous spirit, Jack was always there to lend a hand to his children, grandchildren neighbors and friends whether it was helping his son remodel his bathrooms, building shelves in his daughter’s apartment, helping his grandson with home repair projects or shoveling a neighbor’s walk. Jack was a loving and devoted friend with lifelong friendships. Friends became family.
Jack loved all kinds of music and history, enjoyed the outdoors hunting and fishing and vacations with family and friends. In his later years he had a passion for working in his wood workshop creating items to be a loving legacy to his family.
Jack had a great sense of humor, respected and beloved and was described by those who knew him as a mensch, a man with a big heart, and unforgettable.
Family and friends are invited to services, Thursday, 12:30 PM at Joseph Levine and Sons Memorial Chapel, 2811 West Chester Pike, Broomall, PA. Interment at Mt. Sharon Cemetery.
