James Joseph August

James Joseph August, 80 years old of Philadelphia, PA passed away on Friday, September 26, 2025 surrounded by his loving family members.

James was born on July 10th, 1945 in Philadelphia, PA, the son of Helene Toby August (nee Fastman) and Alan Theodore Margulis August.

He was graduated from Overbrook High School in 1962 and the Pennsylvania State University in 1966.

James was a passionate and dedicated Philadelphia School District Elementary School Teacher, who for 30+ years taught in North Philadelphia and Society Hill.

He was a fourth-generation family member of Margulis Wines and Spirits, founded in 1891, who worked part-time enhancing the company legacy.

James and his spouse, Oscar Villamil, were significant others and best friends for 42 years. After 36 years, they chose to marry, formalizing their lasting relationship in 2019.

He was also an avid tennis player and Philadelphia professional sports fan.

James is survived by his loving spouse, Oscar Villamil; Brother S. Robert "Bobby" August (Penny); Nephews Jason Todd August and Alan Tyler August of Denver, CO; the Villamil-Vuelvas family and the Martinez-Villamil family of Bogota and Medellin, Colombia.

Relatives and friends are invited to James' graveside service on Tuesday, September 30th, 2025 at 12 p.m. EDT at Roosevelt Memorial Park (Trevose, PA).
