Dr. Jerry H. Herman, MD of Rydal, PA and Longboat Key, FL, a renowned
Philadelphia OB/GYN, Passes at 92
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Jerry H.
Herman of Rydal, PA and Longboat Key, FL, a beloved and well-known
OB/GYN in Philadelphia, who died peacefully at the age of 92 surrounded
by his family on Saturday, May 25th.
Dr. Herman was a proud alumnus of Central High School (190 th Class)
where he graduated in 1948. He continued his education by earning a
Bachelor of Arts from The University of Pennsylvania in 1951 and pursued
his passion for medicine, earning his medical degree from Temple
University School of Medicine in 1955. Following his residency at Albert
Einstein Medical Center, Dr. Herman served as Captain in the United
States Army at the Fort Stuart Hospital in Georgia as Chief of OB/GYN,
where he received the Certificate of Achievement for Outstanding Service.
After leaving the Army in 1961, Dr. Herman began his private practice in
the Philadelphia metropolitan area where he served the community with
dedication and compassion until retirement in 2001. During his illustrious
career, his practice included serving the City of Philadelphia Police & Fire
Departments. He delivered thousands of babies, touching countless lives
and contributing significantly to the health and well-being of families across
the Philadelphia area.
Dr. Herman was more than just a dedicated physician; he was a cherished
husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. An avid sports
fan, he held season tickets for years to the Eagles, watched the Phillies
religiously, and enjoyed following the games. He was also an enthusiastic
golfer, spending many joyful hours on the golf course with friends, and later
in life, with his children and grandchildren. He was an active, long-term
member of Ashbourne Country Club.
He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Judy Gottlieb Raiken Herman.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Anne B. Herman, who passed away
in 1984. He is also survived by his brother, Dr. Thomas Herman, and was
predeceased by his brother, Dr. Robert Herman. He was a beloved father
to Rick Herman (Marci), Andi Morris (Abe), Fred Herman (Mindi) Lee
Raiken (Annie) and Marc Raiken (Courtney). Additionally, he was a
cherished and loving grandfather to Joshua (Adena), Andrew (Laura), Alex
(Sammy), Sami (Mitch), Jessica, Max, Evan and Beatrice as well as a great
grandfather to Remi, Millie, Julian, Leo and Ella.
A service to honor Dr. Herman’s life and legacy will be held at Joseph
Levine & Sons, Memorial Chapel, 4737 E. Street Road, Feasterville-
Trevose, PA on Tuesday, May 28 th at 1:00pm. Friends and relatives are

Interment will follow at Roosevelt Memorial Park in Trevose.
Shiva will be observed at the family home following the interment with
services at 7:00pm, and on Wednesday, May 29 th starting at 6:00pm with
services at 7:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that
contributions be made to the Hazzan’s Discretionary Fund at Congregation

Dr. Herman will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and the
many patients whose lives he touched. His legacy of compassion,
expertise, and dedication to the field of obstetrics and gynecology will be
remembered and celebrated for years to come.
