John "Jack" Fitzsimmons

John “Jack” Fitzsimmons of Trevose, PA on August 22, 2026.

Born September 10, 1946 in Philadelphia, Jack was the middle child of the late Walter and Elizabeth (Walsh) Fitzsimmons. He attended North Catholic High School, playing on the varsity football team and graduating in 1964. Jack earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Lasalle University and a master’s degree in education from Temple University.

Jack began his school career as a “frightened” history teacher at Cardinal Dougherty High School in 1968, but then served for 24 years as director of the guidance department. “Mr. Fitz” worked tirelessly to support his students; a school biography later said he “probably helped more kids and their families than anyone ever to work at CD,” and he was the recipient of several educational awards. He also coached girls’ soccer and girls’ lacrosse; moderated the PCL Champion Chess team; and moderated the National Honor Society. Upon the closure of his beloved CDHS in 2010, he moved to Little Flower High School, where he was the guidance director for an additional 4 years and then worked part time for 4 years at Archbishop Wood High School until his retirement.

Jack was united in marriage to Beverly (Howell) Fitzsimmons in 1972. In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by three children and their families:

- Zoe Goshow and Rony Berreondo 

- Megan

- Tim Fitzsimmons and Chris Pothoven

- Erin and Katie Love 

- Jude and Maeve

He is also survived by his brothers Skip Fitzsimmons (Ann) and Jimmy Fitzsimmons; many cousins, nieces, nephews, brothers- and sisters-in-law; and his furry best friend, Archie.

Jack loved spending his time supporting his children and grandchildren in all of their activities—attending countless swimming meets, soccer matches, and baseball games—and keeping the pool in top condition for family members to enjoy swimming and grilling throughout the summer months. He was an ardent fan of all Philadelphia sports teams. He enjoyed his vacations to the shore and the many cruises he took over the years. Jack also greatly looked forward to the breakfasts with the Bonnet Lane crew.

Relatives and friends are invited to memorial services Saturday August 29. 2026 at Joseph Levine and Sons, 4737 Street Road, Trevose, PA 19053. The family will begin receiving guests at 10:00AM.
