John J. Madigan
John J. Madigan of Lancaster, PA, died suddenly of heart failure on October 11, 2008, two days shy of his 70th birthday. He died at Summit Point Raceway in West Virginia just prior to doing what he loved best, racing his sports car.
John is survived by his daughter, Michelle Shriver, son-in-law, Christian and his loving companion, Carol Swendsen, all of whom were by his side at the time of his death. John is also survived by his son, John Erik (Jill) and is the brother of Lois (Edwin) Mullenbrock, Barbara Griffin, Mildred (Wendell) Storms, and Lewis (Barbara) French. Also survived by his daughter-in-law, Sandy; stepdaughter, Samantha (Spayd) Zehel; grandchildren, Kelsey and Alex. He was predeceased by a son, Guy; and his wives, Roswitha (Nee Ponelis), Elizabeth (Nee Bolluyt), Carole Spayd (Nee Lazarus), and Eileen (Nee Wunsch). John also leaves behind a vast community of friends and extended family that loved and greatly respected him. He will be deeply missed.
John graduated from Northwestern College in 1969 and served in the U.S. Army. John began his career in the Workers Compensation insurance business in 1962. At the time of his death, he was employed by Compservices (CSI) where in the year 2000 he was promoted to the director of Provider Relations. He was a significant factor in the growth and success of CSI. He was known for his wealth of knowledge, determination, integrity, and candid viewpoints. John was active in the PA Bureau of Workers Compensation conference program and medical review and fee committees. He was a proud member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians. He also served as a soccer goalie coach in the the 1980's for the University of PA. His passion for sports cars extended to the collecting and restoring of vintage cars.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing Thursday from 6-9 p.m. at Joseph Levine and Sons, 4737 Street Road, Trevose, PA. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1 p.m., at the Bensalem United Methodist Church, 4300 Hulmeville Road, Bensalem, PA 19020.
