September 8, 1931 to October 9, 2018. Age 87. Longtime resident of Philadelphia and previously a resident of Key West FL, Bethesda MD, Chincoteague VA and Brooklyn NY. Beloved wife of Bertram S. Brown. Devoted mother of Dale Susan Brown, Laurie Browngoehl (Kevin Browngoehl), Wendy Brown-Blau (Peter Blau) and Traci Sophia Brown (deceased Aug. 23, 2017). Loving grandmother to Rebecca Feinberg, Judy Browngoehl, Jessica Blau, Abigail Browngoehl and Jason Blau and great-grandmother to Sadie and Lila Feinberg.
Joy was an avid birder, opera lover, fearless traveler and patron of the arts. She loved technology and reading, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family, her children and grandchildren. She was a graduate of Brooklyn College and also received her MSW. She produced a videotape called Rivers of Sand about erosion's impact on Chincoteague, which has been shown at the Chincoteague Visitor Center on a regular basis.
A private Memorial Service with be held at a future date. Contributions in her memory can be made to support the library of her beloved home of many years, Chincoteague VA. Chincoteague Island Library, 4077 Main Street, Chincoteague Island VA 23336-2407.
