Judith "Judy" Burkholz Fox

Judith “Judy” Burkholz Fox (nee Burkholz) passed away on January 11, 2026. Beloved wife of Craig Fox and mother to Arden Fox, aunt of Myron Kaplan and Eric Musican, and great aunt to Veronica, Abby, and Alex Musican.

From a young age, Judy was incredibly motivated, and was the first person in her family to graduate from college. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Mathematics at Penn State University and her masters degree in Computer Science from Temple University. As a software engineer, she worked diligently and wisely in a time when men dominated the field. She was praised for her work with the National Adoption Center, winning an Internet Information award and developing the first US government national adoption website AdoptUsKids.org.

After decades applying her trade and staring at little lines of code on a screen, Judy was able to retire in 2008, returning to her deep love of painting. While practicing as an artist in her spare time in the 90s and aughts, she was now able to hone her skills tremendously, first in water colors and later as an oil painter. She painted innumerable natural landscapes, reflective of her love of nature and her talent for gardening. Her backyard in Bryn Mawr sprawled with beautiful flowers and plants she lovingly tended to over the 35 years she lived there. Her art was inspired by her world travels around the US, Canada, Europe, and the Caribbean. Her breathtaking depictions of blooming fields, rippling lakes, and moss-covered architecture won her accolades from fans and critics. She received the Ruth Thompson Memorial Award for her watercolor featuring the Japanese Tea Gardens Golden Gate Park (shown in the photo), and sold many of her works as a professional.

A fan of live music, she was an active concert-goer. A folky at heart, she loved the classic artists of the 60s, but was also current on the latest music artists making the rounds. She was also passionate about causes like climate change, and would volunteer with a local chapter of Indivisable, defending democracy.
