Judith "judy" Teir Kasser

Judith "Judy" Teir Kasser, of Philadelphia, PA, passed away on May 9, 2014 of respiratory failure. Judy was born on October 18, 1929 to Sadie and Morris Teir. She loved ballet and enjoyed writing. She was Editor of the Olney High School paper. She was 84.
After she graduated from high school, Judy got a job working for a local print shop owned by Benjamin Kasser. They soon fell in love and were married on March 15, 1948 in Elkton, MD, accompanied by a close friend and Judy's brother, Leonard, who survives her.
In the late 1950s, Judy returned to school and earned a bachelor's degree and met her dearest friend, Alma Orchinik, at Temple University. Judy then entered the Master's Degree in Social Work program at Bryn Mawr College and earned her degree Suma Cum Laude.

Judy worked as a Clinical Social Worker for many years, in both hospital settings and for private agencies, finally achieving the position of Executive Director of Jewish Family and Children's Service in Boston, MA in 1983. She continued in this position until her retirement.

Judy was proud of her work as a Social Worker and worked very hard to pass licensing requirements for Social Workers in Pennsylvania. She was the first President of the Pennsylvania Society for Clinical Social Work, an organization that began in her living room!

Judy love opera, ballet, and her Melton classes. Judy also loved to travel and spent many months traveling around the world with dear friends and meeting new friends everywhere she went.
In addition to her brother Leonard, Judy is survived by her daughters Cynthia Curme (Oliver) and Lisa Shender (Barry). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Henry, Chester (Yingzhuo) and Elijah Curme, and Benjamin (Julie) and Joseph Shender. She is also survived by her great-grandson Liam Shender.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 15 at Joseph Levine & Sons, Inc., 4737 Street Road, Trevose, PA 19053. with internment immediately following at Roosevelt Memorial Park, 2701 Old Lincoln Highway,Trevose, PA 19053. Donations may be made to the Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning
