Jules S. Lapides

Jules S. Lapides, December 18, 2023, of Bronx, NY, Broomall PA, and West Chester, PA; beloved husband of the late Norma; loving father of Lila Lapides and Maureen Pomeroy (Richard); cherished grandfather of Genevieve, Jacob and Benjamin.

Jules graduated from Stuyvesant High School in Lower Manhattan and City College of New York, then earned his Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Michigan’s Wayne State University. He remained grateful for the opportunities his education and military service provided. A US Army veteran, he served stateside during the Korean War.

He worked as a chemical and environmental engineer throughout his career, and held several patents, retiring from the French chemical company Elf Atochem on Bastille Day.

While working in Michigan in the early 1960s, he met and married Norma, his wife of 58 years, who he cared for in her last years while she was suffering from Parkinson’s disease. 

They raised their family in Broomall and were longtime members of Temple Sholom. Together they enjoyed summer vacations he could drive to using a AAA map, and weekends at Rose Tree Woods Swim Club.

He is remembered for his love of family, his friendships, his work, his love of cooking and gardening, and mountains, and democracy.

Relatives and friends are invited to a graveside service Friday, 12:30pm, at Haym Salomon Memorial Park, Malvern, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jules’ memory may be made to the City College of New York (https://www.ccny.cuny.edu/giving), where he earned his chemical engineering degree.
