Karmela Taits Stohr

Karmela Taits Stohr, age 56, passed away far too soon on June 30, 2026.

Karmela was born on November 5, 1969, in Riga, Latvia, to Simone Gorelik and Gregory Taits. She came to the United States at the age of 10 and went on to graduate from Lincoln High School. She spent her life in the greater Philadelphia area, where she built deep and lasting relationships with family and friends.

She is survived by her beloved son, Michael Stohr; her mother, Simone Marat; her stepmother, Maya Taits; her sister, Julia Dranov; and her stepsister, Yana Dranov. She was preceded in death by her father, Gregory Taits.

Karmela was surrounded by people who adored her, including many friends she considered sisters. She was an incredible mother, daughter, sister, and friend. She loved cooking, music, and animals, and she brought warmth, humor, and devotion to the people lucky enough to know her. Throughout her life, she showed extraordinary resilience and strength in the face of adversity.
