Lenore Roberts

Lenore Ellen Roberts of Broomall, PA, passed peacefully at her home on November 10, 2024, just shy of her 90th birthday. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of Isidore and Belle (Adler) Hershkovitz. After graduating from Madison High School, she went on to graduate from Adelphi University. She married Albert Roberts in 1956, shortly before he was drafted into the U.S. Army. Lenore taught elementary school in Edgewood, Maryland, near the military base. They later moved to Erdenheim, PA in 1958 and then to Broomall, where they lived for over 60 years.

The Roberts home was a warm and welcoming place, where the dining room table was regularly expanded to host guests for Shabbat dinners and all manner of occasions. She is remembered by many beyond the family circle, as a gracious and generous host, an attentive listener, and a maternal figure. Lenore volunteered as a homeroom mother for her children’s classes and as a special education teacher’s aide at Brown Elementary School. She later founded a company providing field services for qualitative research studies. Lenore’s dual mission was to provide exceptional service to her clients for over a decade while providing meaningful employment for homebound women who, like herself, were coping with the often life-altering impact of Multiple Sclerosis.

Lenore had many important connections in the Jewish community over the decades through her active membership in several congregations and organizations, including Temple Sholom in Broomall, Suburban Jewish School, and Temple Beth Hillel Beth El in Wynnewood, where she served on the Torahthon organizing committee for many years. She was a lifelong learner committed to her own Jewish education. She studied in the Jewish Theological Seminary High School program in the 1940’s, and participated for decades in the Women’s League for Conservative Judaism study group. Continuing her mother’s commitment, Lenore was a generous supporter of the Women's League for Israel among other organizations.

Lenore is survived by her husband, her three children, Matthew Roberts (Cheri), Josh Yarden, and Susan Gottesman (Natan), her six grandchildren, and five great grandchildren in the U.S. and in Israel. She is also survived by her brother Ralph Hersh (Phyllis) of Baltimore.

Relatives and friends are invited to chapel services Tuesday November 12 at 2:00 PM at Joseph Levine & Sons, 1002 W. Skippack Pike, Blue Bell, PA. Services will also be streamed at www.levinefuneral.com/blue-bell-webcam1.html.

Interment will be Wednesday November 13 at 1:00 PM at Beth David Cemetery, 300 Elmont Avenue, Elmont, NY 11003.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Lenore's memory may be made to Women's League for Israel (womensleagueforisrael.org.il) or Women's League for Conservative Judaism (wlcj.org).
