Leonard B. Shore

It is with great sadness that the family of Leonard Bernard Shore, of Rydal, PA, announces his passing from health complications at the age of 94, on February 19, 2025.

“A Life Well Lived”

Leonard was born in Atlantic City, NJ and lived there until he was about 5 when he moved to Philadelphia with his family. He attended Central High School graduating in the class of 1948 and worked in the family Hardware Store, before attending Penn State University. He left college prematurely to come help at the now family Lumber Yard in Cornwells Heights Philadelphia helping out his brother and father. Leonard then served in the Army from 1952 until 1954, stationed in Ft. Jackson South Carolina, and later in the army reserves until 1961. He eventually returned to college at Temple University night school while working full time, in his uncle’s business, Madway Main Line homes, for some 12 years. He earned his bachelor’s degree in finance, and graduated with honors.

Leonard recently celebrated 71 years of marriage with the love of his life Joan (nee Kolansky). They met as teenagers on the beaches of Atlantic City, NJ, and it was love at first sight for him, as he reminded all of us frequently. They began raising their children in Oak Lane, Philadelphia, and later moved to Rydal, PA. Rydal has been home for some 57 years, while he also loved spending summers at homes on the Jersey shore, in both Margate and recently Ventnor, NJ. He loved relaxing there best despite having traveled the world with Joan.

Leonard led a distinguished career as a Real Estate executive, first for the family business, Madway Main line Homes, and then the Richard I Rubin company, later known as PRIET. He headed up many major development and construction projects for them, such as the renovation of the Bellevue Hotel in Philadelphia, Willow Grove Park Mall in Abington, the Cherry Hill Mall in New Jersey, and the Cumberland Mall in Delaware, and many others.

Leonard devoted his life to his family always, A loving father of William and wife Paola, Frann Sue, Marc and wife Tal. He was most proud of his son’s accomplishments in their Real Estate business in New York City, and his daughter's engineering for the Boeing Company. He was a cherished grandfather to his grandchildren, who meant the world to him, Michele, David, Andrew, Dov and Adi. He loved hearing of and quietly cheering on their various accomplishments on the athletic fields, ice rinks, and courts, and most importantly their academic achievements and their gaining a proper college education. Also, second to his love for family was his love for Collies of which he and Joan raised seven from 1972 thru to 2021, as well as a couple of cats along the way.

Leonard was an avid Philadelphia sports fan, especially of his Eagles, and shared many a game with his uncles and children, from as early as the 1960 championship game, to being able to watch the most recent Super Bowl win.
