Linda Spero

SPERO LINDA After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Linda Spero, 69, of Merion, PA, passed away on November 3, 2021 with her children and husband by her side. Linda was born in St. Louis, Missouri on December 20, 1951, the youngest daughter of Morris and Ann (Nissen) Makovsky. Linda was smart, funny, compassionate, and a great listener. She met the love of her life at a young age. She married Les Spero on a New York City rooftop on March 25, 1971. They went on to raise three wonderful children in St. Louis, Boston and Philadelphia and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2021. Linda paused her college career when she got married, but returned to school first to obtain her Bachelors from the University of Pennsylvania (1980), then a Masters in social work from Bryn Mawr College (1984), and ultimately became a psychoanalyst in 2003. Her work as a therapist was one of the greatest joys of Linda's life. In her 50s, Linda developed a mindfulness and yoga practice as part of her personal growth. She incorporated what she learned into her work with patients. Linda was tremendously invested in her family. She kept their home running smoothly. For more than four decades, she supported her husband and children - and then grandchildren - in their ventures and adventures. She was always available to talk through a problem or offer guidance. Her greatest wish in life was that those she loved find happiness. Linda loved art in all its forms. She enjoyed art galleries, museums, the flowers in her garden, music of all kinds, theater, movies, clothes and jewelry. Linda is survived by her husband Les Spero of Merion, PA; son Jay Spero (Esti) of University Heights, OH; son Rafi Spero of Merion, PA; daughter Navah Spero (Katie) of Richmond, VT; grandchildren Elisheva (Eli), Reuven Yosef (Michal), Shaya, Ahuva (Ari), Moishe, Moshe, and Eliana; and many great-grandchildren. Linda also leaves behind her beloved siblings Reuven Makovsky (Devorah) of Brooklyn, NY and Daryle Spero of Ranana, Israel. She will be loved and missed by them every day. Linda was preceded in death by her parents Morris and Ann (Nissen) Makovsky. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Linda was interred on November 4, 2021 at West Laurel Hill Cemetery. www.levinefuneral.com
