Margery Ruth Golen

Margery Ruth Golen (Lundy) passed away on June 23rd and is at peace after a long journey with Alzheimer’s Disease. She is survived by her three daughters Robin Fireman (Michael),Lauren Golen, Randi Zeidel (Darren) and her 5 grandchildren Hannah, Mollie, Nathan, Jordan and Avery.

Margie was born in Brooklyn on January 29, 1944, and adopted by her loving parents Robert and Methyle Lundy.

She began her career as a medical technician and always had a dream of working in Obstetrics. After becoming certified in Lamaze instruction, her family home became a welcoming place where expectant mothers could often be seen arriving with pillows in hand, preparing for classes. Later in life, Margie returned to school to fulfill a lifelong goal of becoming a nurse. She worked in labor and delivery alongside the Midwifery team, beginning her nursing career at PCOM and continuing at Lankenau. Over the years, she helped bring hundreds of babies into the world, including three of her own grandchildren.

Margie brought comfort and care to countless families during some of the most meaningful moments of their lives. Even in her retirement her dedication to caring for others continued through her volunteer work at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where she held and comforted the hospital’s tiniest patients and supported their mothers. Her kindness, compassion, and gentle presence brought comfort to everyone who knew her.

As an only child, Margie longed for siblings and in many ways created them through lifelong friendships, many that lasted over 70 years. These women were her “sisters” embodying the very definition of steadfast love and loyalty. Margie listened with genuine empathy, offered warm embraces, and provided comfort seamlessly. Together they shared laughter, love, and a lifetime of memories. They will remember her generous heart, her devotion to family and friendship and her remarkable ability to create warmth and belonging wherever she went.

Margie also had a deep love of nature. She completed a two-year Horticulture Certificate at The Barnes Foundation, which takes a comprehensive approach to horticultural science, methods and design. She went on to volunteer at Tyler and Morris Arboretums as well as The Philadelphia Flower Show sharing her passion for plants and gardening with others. At home, she could always be found tending to her vegetable garden and her backyard blooms.

Later in life, Margie developed a love of travel. Whether traveling alone, with her daughters and grandchildren or alongside close friends, she embraced every adventure. In her 50s and 60s she visited Italy, Africa, Australia, New Zealand, London, Ireland, Alaska and always with her camera close at hand. She also cherished annual trips to the Pocono Mountains, where she enjoyed the beauty and quiet of nature.

Late in life, Ancestry helped unlock a part of her history that years of searching and legal efforts could not. She discovered half siblings and was able to meet and visit them in Napa Valley. Sadly, her birth mother had passed away years earlier due to complications from dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Through these newfound family connections, Margie received answers she had long awaited and gained a deeper understanding of her roots, including many of the qualities and traits she shared with her biological family.

Margie will be remembered for her compassion, curiosity, generosity, and unwavering devotion to family and friends.

Shiva will be observed at the home of Robin and Michael Fireman on Thursday, June 25th and Friday, June 26th from 4pm until 8pm.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Margie’s memory may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association at https://www.alz.org
