Marjorie Linda Paul (née Lazaroff), affectionately known as Marge or Margie, passed away on July 18, 2024, in Charlotte, NC, at the age of 81. She will be greatly missed by her husband of 58 years Edward Paul; her daughter Melissa (Dean) Wattam of Cartagena, Spain, her sons Bryant (Cheryl) Paul of Bloomington, IN and Barry (Jennifer) Paul of Charlotte, NC; and her five grandchildren: Penelope, Lucas, Jack, Clementine, and Rebecca; she is also survived by her sister Deborah (the late Edward Jay) Weiss and brother Jerry (Beatrice) Lazaroff. Born on May 5, 1943, in Philadelphia, PA, Marjorie spent her formative years in Wynnefield and Bala Cynwyd, PA, eventually graduating from Harriton High School in Rosemont, PA in 1961. Marjorie earned a BA in Education at Temple University, which laid the foundation for her lifelong commitment to learning. She began her career as an elementary schoolteacher and later returned as a substitute teacher for the Lower Merion School District. Her professional journey also included nearly two decades as a licensed paralegal, showcasing her versatility and dedication to her various roles. Beyond her professional life, Marjorie was a devoted mother, grandmother, and wife. Her joy was most evident when surrounded by her family and friends, particularly at her beach house in Margate, NJ, and later at her home in Naples, FL. She was an avid reader and bridge player, and a loving owner to her pets Benny, the Labrador Retriever, and Teddy, the Cockapoo. Marjorie's community involvement was noteworthy. She served as the Sisterhood President at Temple Beth Am Israel in Penn Valley, PA, and was an active member of the Union League of Philadelphia where she was a past president and book club chair of the League’s Millennium Table. Her passion for travel took her to many exotic destinations, enriching her life with exposure to diverse cultures and experiences.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at Main Line Reform Temple, 410 Montgomery Ave, Wynnewood, PA (livestream accessible atmlrt.org/livestream/). Interment will follow at West Laurel Hill Cemetery, Bala Cynwyd, PA. A reception for friends and family will follow at the Marriott Philadelphia West Hotel,111 Crawford Ave, West Conshohocken, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Beyond Literacy www.beyondliteracy.org and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) www.aspca.org, organizations that reflect Marjorie's love for education and animal welfare.
