FINKEL

MAXWELL, a resident of the Quadrangle in Haverford PA, died at Bryn Mawr Hospital on September 8, 2014. Max was born in Philadelphia on April 6, 1916, to Abraham Finkelman and Fannie Valbe, previously of Miropol, Ukraine, and lived at 4th and Christian Sts. until he and Mae Rhea Kasselman married and moved to Wynne-field PA in 1956. He is survived by his son, Dr. Adam M. Finkel; his daughter-in-law, Dr. Joanne E. Booth; and his beloved granddaughter, Maia Abigail Booth Finkel. He was preceded in death by his wife in 2009 and his older brother, Dr. Louis Fink, later in 2009.
Max graduated from Southern High and attended Temple University. He worked for more than 50 years in the furniture industry, first as a buyer for Lit Brothers and Gimbels, and for many years as the top manufacturer's representative for Crawford Furniture Co. of Jamestown NY, makers of early American hardwood furniture. Interment will take place at Montefiore Cemetery at a later date. Contributions will be gratefully accepted at www.philadelphiafutures.org, where Max and Mae had mentored several low-income students who (like themselves) were trying to become among the first in their families to attend college.
