Melvin "Mel" Claver

Melvin "Mel" Claver, 99 of Spring City, died peacefully on Sept 13, 2026 surrounded by family.

Mel was born in South Philadelphia to Louis and Ruth Claver on June 13, 1927. He was a veteran of World War 2 serving during the last weeks of the war.

Following his discharge Mel attended Temple University and graduated with a degree in science. He began his career in Pharmacy and worked at several manufacturing companies and at several retail drug stores until his retirement.

He was a lifelong Mason with Columbia Lodge No. 91 achieving the high position of Worshipful Master in 1963. He continued as an active member until his passing.

Mel was an active and dedicated member of the American Legion Marple Memorial Post 805, highlighted by his selection as Grand Marshal for the 2024 Marple Memorial Day Parade. For 27½ years, he faithfully supported and served the needs of Veterans, earning the respect and gratitude of all who knew him. His deep concern for the well‑being of fellow Veterans was especially evident in his passionate advocacy for the Legion’s “Buddy Checks.” In recognition of his commitment, the Post established the Mel Claver Buddy Check Program in his honor, ensuring that his spirit of care and connection continues to guide its mission.

A beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife Marilyn on June 11, 2022.

He is survived by children, son Alan and daughter Lisa (Eric) Bliss , grandchildren Melissa, Josh (Alyssa) and Rachel (Brett) Nelson , and his great-grandchildren Chase and Jocelyn.
