Monte B. Croll

CROLL
MONTE B., on March 25, 2016. Husband of 70 years to Sylvia (nee Goldstein), father of Alan Croll (Carol) and Linda Croll Winokur (Terry, died 10/28/13). Survived by brother Lionel Croll, grandchildren Michael Croll (Chris), Lisa Croll (David Lieberman) and Zak Winokur (Lark Irwin) and six great-grandchildren.
Monte served as a Master Sergeant in the 32nd Machine Records Unit attached to the adjutant general's department of the U.S. 1st Army in Weimar, Germany.
Monte met his bride, Sylvia, when he was assigned to deliver important records to U.S. headquarters in Paris, a 500-mile journey by truck. Minutes after arriving in Paris, he saw a group of WACs leaving their jobs at headquarters and boarding a truck. He thought he recognized one of the women soldiers and called out, ""Don't I know you?"" She didn't respond, so as the truck was pulling away, he boldly shouted, ""What's your phone number?"" To his surprise, she shouted her phone number. The rest is history!
After the Army, Monte worked for his entire career at Taylor Lock Company where he worked his way up from being a bookkeeper all the way to running the company as Vice President of Operations.
Monte lived in Whitemarsh Village in Wyndmoor for 68 years prior to moving to The Manor at Yorktown in 2011.
