Nina Magil Hausner

HAUSNER
NINA MAGIL
On June 13, 2017. Beloved wife of the late Alan Hausner; sister of Ronnie Allen (Herb); aunt of Wendy Miller (Hal); great aunt of Paula and Jennifer Miller and cousin of Cindy Taubman (Richard). Also, daughter of Mildred and Leon Magil; grand-daughter of Jennie and Charles Goldman and Rose and Myer Magil; sister of Paul (all deceased). The Cheltenham resident was flamboyant and colorful in art, dress and personality. As an artist, she experimented in many mediums. While she did printmaking, created sculpture, designed jewelry and fashioned dolls, her main focus was abstract paintings in acrylic, watercolor and montage. She flooded her work with luminous colors. Nina's goal was to stimulate and challenge her imagination as well as that of others. Creating was as important to her as breathing. In her 35 years of teaching art, primarily in the Philadelphia School System, she prized the enthusiasm reflected in the faces of her students from 5 to 85 when creativity captured their spirit. Nina's art is her legacy. She wanted people who experienced her work to smile, to be uplifted, to find their own interpretation. Her training included the Tyler School of Art where she received her B.S. and M.A., along with the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, University of the Arts, Fleischer Art Memorial, Cheltenham Art Center, Allen's Lane Art Center and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Nina was raised in a Kosher household and was a graduate of Akiba Hebrew Academy. She was imbued with a reverence for Israel and visited 19 times. Learning piano helped arouse Nina's passion for music. Starting to attend Philadelphia Orchestra concerts as a child, she continued that practice until this year. Along with her art, Nina leaves behind her myriad collection of friends and family. Family was central in her life. The traditional family Shabbot dinners were the glue. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent in Nina's name to Friends of the Israel Defense Forces. Services Thursday, June 15 at 1:30 P.M. at JOSEPH LEVINE AND SONS MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 4737 Street Road, Trevose, PA. Interment Roosevelt Memorial Park. Shiva will be observed Thursday night at the Fairmont, 9 St. Asaph's Rd. Bala Cynwyd, PA.
