Richard Strauss

Passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2024. Richard Strauss was born on Apr. 1, 1923, the son of Siegfried and Erna Strauss. Although born in Germany, he considered himself a native New Yorker. He was the beloved husband of the late Eleanor (nee Braus) Strauss; loving father of Amy Strauss, Lynn Strauss (Nate Wolman) and Sharon Strauss (Dan Moscow); cherished grandfather of Laura, Matthew (Amber Wolman), and Kyle Wolman and Juniper and Oliver Moscow; devoted brother of the late Elsie Kochmann.

Richard was a graduate of The Cooper Union and received his Masters in Engineering from Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn. He started his career as a draftsman at Lowey Hydropress, NY. He and his family followed the company to Media, PA as it changed ownership. He designed machinery and came up with a number of innovations, applying for multiple patents. He retired as their engineering sales manager. Richard enjoyed playing bridge, spending time with family, taking care of his house, reading engineering magazines, eating dessert, cheering the Phillies and Yankees, and offering a helping hand to anyone in need. His quiet, loving nature was apparent to all who met him.

Family and friends are invited to Services, Sunday, 1:00 PM at Congregation Beth Israel of Media, 542 S New Middletown Rd, Media, PA. Interment at Har Jehuda Cemetery. The family will return to the residence of Lynn Strauss & Nate Wolman. Please come for a late lunch followed by Shiva service at 6:00 PM.
