Rita Ehrenberg

d. January 26, 2024

Rita Muriel Ehrenberg (née Goldenberg), 95, passed away peacefully at home at Shannondell at Valley Forge surrounded by her husband Julian, of almost 75 years, and her children with Frank Sinatra playing. Rita was the daughter of Barney and Fannie Goldenberg.

Proudly born and raised in Norristown, PA, alongside her older brother, Herb. Rita graduated with honors in high school, and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania. At Penn she met her husband, Julian, back from WWII, a student at The Wharton School of Business.

Rita and Julian were committed to the Norristown Jewish Community, Tiferet Israel, now Tiferet Bet Israel. Rita was president of the Jewish Women’s League and Julian, a past president of the Synagogue. Family life revolved around the synagogue. Rita chaired Art Shows, special events, served as a Candy Striper at Montgomery Hospital, and volunteered for the Girl Scout Brownies. Rita worked in the Norristown School District for many years.

Rita was a cherished and devoted friend to many. Summers were spent in Beach Haven on LBI, surrounded by friends, with parties galore. Rita was an excellent bridge player, playing up until just a few weeks before her passing.

Mommom was renowned for her macaroni and cheese and delicious cookies: thumbprint, strip, chocolate chip, egg white meringue cookies and hamentashen; she was the ultimate holiday host and chef for every occasion.

Rita is survived by her husband Julian, her children, Barbara Black (Mickey), Nancy Miller (Ron), grandchildren, Anna Morin (Eric), grandson, Lee Forest Black*, of Blessed Memory, ( Molly) and Kate Hutelmyer (John). Her great grandchildren, Ruby and Hattie Morin, and Jade Hutelmyer were the joy of her life. A doting wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she was a joy of our lives, too.

Family and extended family meant everything to Rita. She is preceded in death by her treasured brother, Herb Goldenberg (Edith) and blessed with a loving nephew, Bruce Goldenberg (Cerie), and niece Wendy Rothstein, their children Sarah and David Goldenberg and Rachel McCarthy (Mike). Rita was raised with especially close cousins, Yetta Pinsky,* Dora Rose*, M. Zev Rose (Carol*) and their children Leon Rose (Donna) and Adam Rose (Stacey) and their children. Brother-in-law, Richard (MarySue) Ehrenberg and their children, niece Debra Ehrenberg, nephew Hugh Ehrenberg (Celeste), and their children, Sophia and Charlotte.

Rita had close and treasured friends-who-were-family which included 4 generations of the Lou and Lil Davis family, Robert* and Julie* Davis, Ted Davis (Goetz), Natalie “Sweetie” Davis and Steve Davis (Anita).

Rita’s family thanks her many devoted aides including Reliant at Home, Crossroads  Hospice, Angel Companions: Shannondell, Happier at Home and Bayada.
