Robert Cypres

Robert “Bob” Cypres, age 97, of Elkins Park, PA, passed away on May 18, 2024.  Husband of the late Elizabeth “Betty” (Eisenlohr) Cypres; beloved father to Robin Capecci (Joe), Susan Dudkin and Ellen Cervone; cherished grandfather to Allie Capecci (Max Salon), Joe Capecci, Missy Estes, and Kim Dudkin.

Bob was born in the Bronx, New York in 1926.  He graduated from the Bronx High School of Science in January of 1944.  After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in February of 1944 and served with the Third Infantry Division in France and Germany as a rifleman earning two battle stars.

He received a Bachelor of Science Degree for Corrective Therapy from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa in 1951.

Bob was employed at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Coatesville, PA in a physical rehab program where he met his future wife, also a World War II veteran and a physical therapist.  He left the VA Hospital in 1954 to attend the University of Pennsylvania where he received a certificate in Physical Therapy.  After working a few years in Georgia and Virginia, he joined Moss Rehabilitation Hospital in Philadelphia as the Director of Physical Therapy from 1962 to 1984.  He was privileged to work there during the hospital’s development and recognition of one of the finest rehabilitation centers in the country.  During his employment at Moss, he earned his Masters Degree in Physical Therapy at Boston University with the help of an Allied Health Traineeship scholarship.  He worked part time in the 1990s at the Moss Outpatient Center before retiring at age 70 in 1996.

Retirement did not slow him down as he continued to volunteer in his community by delivering Meals on Wheels with the Abington Hospital Program and with the Jewish Family Children’s Program.

Outside of work, Bob loved to travel, play golf with his wife Betty, and loved visiting the Jersey shore with his family.  He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life like dessert after every meal and the Sunday crossword puzzle.  He will be remembered by his passion for education, love of his family, and pride for his country.
