Rose Vinokur (nee Peltyn), passed peacefully on the evening of March 23, 2023 after a vibrant life of 89 years. She is survived by her husband and soulmate Herman, whom she met on the driveway of Atherton Hall at Penn State 70 years ago; her daughter Debby Kaminsky (Howard), who will remember her as curious, tenacious, and endlessly supportive; her treasured sister Dorothy Peltyn-Bates; and her cherished granddaughters Kate and Molly, two of the greatest joys in her life.
Rose’s happy place was the Valley Green and the Wissahickon. She loved to walk the trails for miles with Herman. They met so many interesting people on their walks from intellectuals to yoga teachers to former inmates. They always stopped for a conversation with those who crossed their paths. In honor of Rose and Herman’s 65th wedding anniversary, their family dedicated a bench on the Wissahickon to them.
Shiva will be observed Monday March 27th, from 4:30-9 PM at Vizcaya Salon – 1 Metzger Drive, West Orange, NJ. Minyan will be at 6 PM.
To honor Rose and her happy place, donations in her memory may be made to Friends of the Wissahickon (fow.org/membership-donations/donate).
