CONCORD – Ruth Moses passed away peacefully on Friday, September 21, 2018, at the age of 95 at Hospice House in Concord, N.H. She had most recently resided at The Birches at Concord and prior to that, she resided at John H. Whitaker Place.
Ruth was born in Worms, Germany, in 1923. Ruth led a most fascinating life filled with trauma and sorrow at a very young age as her parents put her on a train at the age of 13 leaving from Worms, Germany, traveling to Le Havre, France to board a ship bound for the U.S. She had one uncle living in Oklahoma whom she had never met. There, her uncle and aunt adopted her as their own; she worked on their farm and attended public school, learning English quickly, and later attending the University of Oklahoma.
She met the love of her life, Ernest, while he was stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Soon after WWII, they were married in Philadelphia and had two children. They later moved to western Pennsylvania. Ernest predeceased her in 1971 suffering from cancer.
Ruth leaves behind her two children, Barbara Moses and Tom, of Bowling Green, Ohio, and Allan Moses of Bow, N.H. She also leaves behind five grandchildren: Daniel, Rachel, Eric, Kelsea and Trevor; and one great grandchild, Anders.
Ruth was a bookkeeper, working for Allan Jewelers, several insurance companies and retail merchants. She loved to work with numbers yet was so very comfortable with meeting new people and making new friends.
She was loved by many. Ruth was always worrying about something and when she wasn't worrying, she was worried about not worrying! She would worry most about her two children, whether it was their safe journeys or their medical care.
Ruth lived a life of benevolence and compassion and instilled these values in her children and grandchildren. Ruth's hobbies included traveling to many places around the world such as Europe, the Middle East, Caribbean islands, Hawaii and others. She was an avid crossword puzzle enthusiast and enjoyed playing Rummikub. She was a postage stamp collector, sports fan and never threw away a birthday card, a letter from her beloved Ernest while he was in the Army or even report cards from her children. Ruth was born into a Jewish family and spent her entire life observing the customs and rituals based on Judaic values.
She was a member of Temple Beth Jacob in Concord, N.H. Ruth will be buried according to Jewish customs next to her husband at Montefiore Cemetery near Philadelphia.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Research Foundation or the National Foundation for Cancer Research. Arrangements are being handled by Joseph Levine & Son in Pennsylvania.
Rest comfortably, Ruth.
