Sandra Hope Brodsky

Brodsky, Sandra Hope, born December 28, 1955 of Lansdale, PA; most beloved sister of Allen (Jeanette) Brodsky and Marla Beth Brodsky, devoted aunt of Ruby Bentsiyon Rothenberg, Pamela Callahan (Mark), and Ralph Meschaan (Jaime), and cherished great-aunt of Abraham Benjamin Plancher, Jayna Marie and Ari Mik’ael Meschaan.

Sandy got her Masters degree in Recreational Therapy from Temple University. Her first job at the Brattleboro Retreat for mental health began her love affair with Vermont where she stayed for 30 years. She worked with stroke, head injury, dementia & Alzheimer’s patients at hospitals in Connecticut, Massachusetts & Vermont. She also trained as a dietician & was a lifelong vegetarian.

Sandy loved kayaking & hiking under the full moon with her New England friends. She volunteered at the local animal shelter and was a devoted mama to felines Fleetwood, Chocolat, Tika & Mischief. Dedicated to family, Sandy helped with her sister’s daughter at the beginning of her life & moved to be with her father and mother at the end of theirs. Sandy loved helping & caretaking. She was also on the board of her Brattleboro synagogue. Giving to others was fundamental to her, in her personal and professional interactions.

When Sandy returned once more to the Philadelphia area in 2014 after being diagnosed with a life-altering congenital heart condition, she found new ways to help others and bring meaning to her life by becoming an indispensable and beloved volunteer with Angel Flight East at Wings Field, putting her Recreational Therapy skills to valued use as a volunteer at the Meadowood Senior Living health center, organizing major fund-raising events for the Glenside Fire Company, and teaching preschoolers at the Chabad of Montgomery County where she was affectionately known as “Morah Sandy.”

Sandy characteristically had a smile on her face and a warm greeting for everyone she passed. She could not walk across a crowded room without stopping to talk with most everyone in the crowd.
