Sandra Gail Jacobson

Sandra Gail Jacobson (nee Winick), beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Sandra is survived by her children, David (Julie) Jacobson and Dr. Karen (Ryan) Kaufman; grandchildren, Ryan, Cole and Mia Jacobson and Wyatt and Damon Kaufman; brother, Joseph Winick; ex-husband, Jerry Jacobson; and her devoted partner, Russ Greway.

Sandy passed away peacefully in the presence of her family on September 12, 2024 after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She lived a vibrant life full of joy, passion, and dedication to those she loved.

Born on December 28, 1948 in Brookline, Massachusetts, Sandy was a graduate of Syracuse University and spent her early career as a math teacher. She pursued her Master's Degree in Education at Penn State and shared her love for learning with both her students and with her children, who both went on to become professionals in their respective fields.

Later, she transitioned into a career as a Certified Payroll Professional, where her attention to detail and expertise were highly regarded. Even after her retirement, Sandy continued to lend her skills, working closely with her daughter, Karen, managing the payroll for her medical practice.

Outside of work, Sandy had an adventurous spirit and spent most of her life enjoying active pursuits. She was an avid skier, enjoying time on the slopes with friends and her long time partner, Russ. She had a love for country music and spent many years enjoying line dancing. She also loved walking with her friends, bike riding on trails, and participating in group fitness classes at the YMCA. Sandy made and cherished new friends through all of these avenues, and maintained so many meaningful friendships for years.

Her love for travel knew no bounds—whether it was road trips, ski vacations, or cruises all over the world, Sandy relished exploring the world and its beauty. She traveled often with her wonderful friends, but also exhibited bravery and wonder when she traveled to Norway and the British Isles by herself. With no surprise, she even made new friends on that trip, finding coincidental commonalities with other travelers, and she remained in contact with them after their voyage ended.

Among the many friendships Sandy nurtured, she was particularly grateful for the relationships she built through the NOCC support group. The strength and camaraderie she found there were a source of great comfort and connection.

Sandy will be remembered for her adventurous spirit, her kindness, and the deep love she had for her family and friends. She touched many lives and leaves behind a legacy of strength, joy, and love.
