Selma Hannah Silberstein

SILBERSTEIN, SELMA HANNAH It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mrs. Selma Hannah Silberstein on Monday, October 6th, 2014. A long-time resident of Coconut Creek, FL and a native of Philadelphia, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leonard, son Harvey, and sister Wilberta Harr. She will be missed by her son David Silberstein and wife Melinda, sister Sheri Wiener, and daughter-in-law Susan Silberstein and husband Tony Appel. "Gram" was especially cherished by her grandchildren, Jill Silberstein, Adam Silberstein and his wife Yrma, Risa Broudy and her husband Matt, Len Appel and his wife Sarina, and Devin and Rowan Crowder. She was Aunt Selma to nieces Bonnie Gold, Suzanne Summers, her husband Keith and their children, Evan and Jennifer. But her most precious jewels and true legacy are her five, great-grandchildren, Shaina and Elliot Broudy, Evan and Spencer Appel, and Adrian Silberstein. While her earthly presence will be missed, she lives on in the hearts of her extended family and friends. Selma, aged 94, always said "life is not a dress rehearsal" and lived fully and purposefully all her days. She enjoyed travel, opera, and golfing with her close friends, Tamara, Evelyn, Rose, and Ruth. She was a frequent college student, even in her 90s. Selma believed in community engagement; she and her husband were founding members of Temple Israel in Upper Darby, PA, where Selma served as President of the Temple Israel Sisterhood. She was an active life long member of Hadassah, and an enthusiastic member of the Democratic Party where she organized for Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign, and served as Vice President of the Democratic Committee at Wynmoor in Coconut Creek. Services will be held on Wednesday, October 8th at 1pm at Mount Sharon Cemetery, 502 E. Springfield Road, Springfield, PA 19064. In celebration of her life, donations may be made to Hadassah (http://www.hadassah.org/), The Center for Advancement in Cancer Education, PO Box 48, Wynnewood, PA19096 (http://beatcancer.org), or Ready for Hillary (www.readyforhillary.com).
