Age 81, passed away peacefully of respiratory failure on February 2 at home. Survived by his adored wife of 42 years, Miriam Gibbons Mandell. Also survived by his 3 children and his stepson, his 3 brothers and one sister, and 4 grandchildren Also many nieces and nephews. Sonny was the President of the Samuel P. Mandell Foundation, a Trustee of the Mandell Family Trust, a Trustee of The National Museum of American Jewish History, a Trustee of The University of The Arts, and a Member of the Friends of the Nantucket Historical Association among other organizations. Services will be held on Monday, February 5, at 12:00 noon, at Adath Israel, 250 N. Highland Ave., Merion Station, PA 19066. Interment will be private. Contributions in Sonny's memory may be made to Penn Medicine Academy of Master Clinicians, c/o Penn Medicine Development Office, Suite 750, 3535 Market St., Philadelphia, PA 19104.
