Shimon Foreman

d. May 6, 2023

Broomall, PA

Shimon Foreman, of Broomall, PA passed on May 6, 2023 at the age of 96.

Shimon was born and raised in Tel Aviv, Israel. Growing up, he and his mother did not have much. They shared one bedroom in a house that included three other families. He found peace in the Mediterranean Sea, where he would watch the fish swimming underwater. He, too, became an avid swimmer. It was a hobby that lasted up until just the past few years.

Shimon was enrolled in college at Haifa Technion but paused his studies in 1948. During this time, he fought in the Israeli War of Independence in the Palmach, an elite fighting force of the Haganah. Following his service, he returned to school and completed his degree in Electrical Engineering.

In the 1950s, Shimon immigrated by boat to the United States via Ellis Island. He was not in the United States long before he had a chance encounter with Doris Bagent. The two met at a party and, as his daughters say, “That was it.” Soon after, the two wed and began their family in the greater Philadelphia area.

In addition to his career, Shimon was a talented woodworker. He created a workshop in their family home where he built the very shutters and furniture that adorned it. In recent years, he took pride in knowing that some of his creations were placed in a museum.

Perhaps because of his humble beginnings in life, Shimon was hardworking and fiercely independent. He did not complain, nor did he ask for help. He was known for speaking his mind freely and honestly. He enjoyed staying up to date on world news and always sought ways to continue learning.

Shimon was the beloved husband of the late Doris; the loving father of Rachel DiFrancesco (Ed), Jennifer Karo, and Lily Thomas (Chris); the adoring grandfather of Sarah (Jon), Jessica (Eric), Daniel, and Jeffrey and the great-grandfather of Landon, who he was thrilled to welcome into the fold. Out of all his accomplishments in life, being a true patriarch is the legacy he leaves to his family and friends.

Services and interment for Shimon are private. Relatives and friends are invited to Shiva at the residence of Lily and Chris Thomas on Tuesday May 9 and Wednesday May 10 beginning at 5:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association (heart.org)
