passed away on December 24, 2012 in Chicago, Illinois, at the age of 94 after suffering a long age related degenerative illness. Simone was born in Philadelphia June 24, 1918 and lived in Philadelphia until moving to Chicago in 2008. Simone was a founding and lifelong member of the Temple Sinai chapter of Hadassah and was Treasurer of this chapter for many years. Simone enjoyed visiting her children in Chicago and Iowa, and she was a generous contributor to the Ames Jewish Congregation, which she frequently attended during high holidays. She was an avid swimmer, story teller and cat lover. She was preceded in death by her husband, S. William Lapan, her brothers Victor, Joseph and Charles Richman and her sister Frances Lempert. She is survived by her sons, Elliot and Harvey, her daughters-in-law, Eveline and Sally, and by her four beloved grandchildren, Josh, Pierre, Sylvain and Sara. Funeral services will be held graveside at Montefiore Cemetery, 600 Church Road, Jenkintown, at 1 pm on Sunday January 6. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Philadelphia chapter of Hadassah.
