SONIA B.
90, of Lafayette Hill PA, passed quietly on Thursday, October 19, 2017. She was born on November 4, 1926 in Philadel-phia PA, the daughter of Rose (Korenbleth) and Abraham J. Becker. She attended Lower Merion High School and later graduated from the University of Florida. She was married to Robert Woldow, also of Philadel-phia, and had four children: the late Richard Woldow, the late Dana Woldow Schreiber, Tina Woldow Rutan and Robert Woldow, Jr.
Sonia was active in many organizations, often in leader-ship roles. She was on the Board of the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia and Federation's Women's Division as well as the JCC's of Greater Philadelphia. She also served on the Boards of Philadelphia Geriatric Center and Jewish Publication Society. She played an active role at Akiba Hebrew Academy (now Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy), first as a parent, then as a member of the school's Board of Directors, and then as Board President from 1978 to 1981. During her tenure she focused on increas-ing financial aid for students, building enrollment while balancing the budget, and raising Akiba's profile in the general Jewish community. She was a member of the school's Board of Directors for almost 40 years. Other organiza-tions she and her husband supported included Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, The Philadelphia Art Museum, The Barnes Foundation, The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, The Philadelphia Orchestra, and The Norton Museum of Art.
Sonia is survived by her sister, Joy Naprstek (Bill); sister-in-law, Betsy Becker (Steven); her children and their spouses: Cindy Woldow, Mark Schreiber, Frank Rutan, and Peter Scurlock, and her grandchildren: Cypher and Julie Woldow, Sam (Zoe), Max and Jacob Schreiber.
Her Funeral was held Sunday, October 22, 2017, at
JOSEPH LEVINE AND SONS MEMORIAL CHAPEL, Trevose. Interment was at Roosevelt Memorial Park. Contributions can be made in her memory to Jewish Federation of Greater Philadel-phia, Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy, Har Zion Temple or a charity of the donor's choice.
