Stanley Edward Gornish

Stanley Edward Gornish, beloved father, grandfather, and lifelong learner, passed away on October 27, 2025. Born in West Philadelphia to Mollie (née Kall) and Edward Gornish, Stan’s life was marked by dedication—to his family, his community, and the pursuit of knowledge.

While working in his uncle’s electrical engineering shop and serving in the Army Reserves, Stan put himself through night school at Temple University, earning a degree in Sociology. His professional journey as a Development Executive took him across the country, serving numerous non-profits including the Lawrence Hall of Science in Berkeley, CA, the Museum of Natural History in New York City, and the Queens Borough Public Library.

A fiercely proud Jew, Stan was deeply involved in synagogue life at Temple Israel of Jamaica during the 1980s and 1990s, where he taught Hebrew School and took part in Brotherhood activities. His faith, curiosity, and generosity of spirit were central to who he was.

Stan shared a life of love and adventure with his late wife, Anick, traveling the world together and savoring the ways food and culture connect people. In her later years, he devoted himself to her care with steadfast tenderness.

Above all, Stan was a devoted and active father, profoundly shaping the lives of his children and remaining a constant source of support and pride as they grew into adulthood. His greatest joy came later in life as “Pop-Pop,” cherishing every moment spent with his grandchildren.

Stanley is survived by his children, David Gornish and Elise Gornish (Albert Barberan), and his grandchildren, Benjamin and Daniel Gornish and Vega Barberan Gornish.

His memory will live on in the many lives he touched—with warmth, wit, and an unwavering belief in the good that people can do.

A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, October 30, 2025, 12:00pm at Congregation Ohev Shalom, 2 Chester Road, Wallingford, PA . In lieu of flowers, contributions in Stanley's memory may be made to Chabad of Aston (https://www.chabadswdelco.com/).
