Stephen “Steve” Elkins was born in Philadelphia. He is predeceased by his
parents, Jerry and Sadie (Rubin) Elkins, his sister Jean and her son, Seth
Fragerman. An alumni of Abington High School-1963 he then graduated from
The College of Emporia, Emporia, KS. Early career jobs including teaching at
North Hills Elementary School in Abington, PA and as a pharmaceutical
representative traveling in FL and CA. He returned to PA and became a
Financial Advisor, retiring in 2014 from Morgan Stanley.
He married Elizabeth C. Wendelin in 1989 and although they had no children
they loved and nurtured their cats-Cleopawtra, Clawed, Rosy, Ruby and Tosey.
Known by many as “The Elk” he will be remembered for his golfing days at
Ashbourne Country Club, Melrose Country Club-Club Champion in 1987 and
1988, Philmont Country Club-Senior Club Champion 1997 and Commonwealth
National Golf Club. Steve was a gifted teacher who served as the Golf Coach at
Penn Charter from 1998-2009, leading the team of young men to the Interac
Golf League Championship in 2005. Later on in his life he volunteered with the
First Tee of Philadelphia.
When his golf days were over he competed at the game of pool with area league
teams and his friends at the Ben Wilson Senior Activity Center, Warminster, PA.
He had a great sense of humor, telling jokes and puns. His origami skill at
folding “Flapping Bird” delighted many children and adults who were gifted with
this creation at area restaurants.
